Vivian Oestmann

On February 17, 1930, on a farm about 8 miles north of Humboldt, NE, a little girl was born to Henry and Clara Alberts. On March 9th, she was baptized by Rev. E.F. Geyer. She was named Vivian Helena Sophia. Vivian’s baptismal verse is: “Suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not: for such is the kingdom of God.” Mark 10:14. Vivian was confirmed on September 10, 1944 at St. James Lutheran church near Humboldt, NE.

Vivian attended elementary school at District 10 Northwest Star in Richardson County, NE. She attended Bratton Union High School and graduated with the class of 1948. She attended Peru College, where she earned a teaching certificate in secondary education. She taught at District 62, Nemaha County, NE and at Bratton Union. From March of 1963 through 1997, Vivian worked at the Nemaha County Health and Human Services offices.

On April 15, 1955, Vivian and Gerald Oestmann were married at St. James Lutheran Church in Humboldt, NE. The couple was blessed with a wonderful family: Jerry Lee and his wife Alicia, Daniel Joel, Shari Renae and her husband Dan Hohnstadt, and 3 grandchildren: D.J. Oestmann, Philip Hohnstadt, and Sarah (Hohnstadt) Bogdanoff and her husband Micah.

Faith, Family, and Friends were priorities for Vivian and Jerry. They were active members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Auburn, NE since 1967 and held various offices in the church. They taught Sunday school, confirmation classes, and taxied many parishioners to Sunday services. Vivian volunteered at the blood mobile, Good Samaritan Home, and the Tecumseh Prison Ministry.

Vivian was preceded to our Heavenly home by her husband Gerald, her parents Henry and Clara Alberts, older sister Dorthea and her husband Arnold Kuhlman, younger sister Willie and her husband Wayne Moerer, sister-in-law Marlene Alberts, brothers-in-law Bob Agnew and Sam Rankin, and many beloved nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Vivian is survived by her 3 children and their spouses, 3 grandchildren and spouse, sisters-in-law Linda Agnew and Dianna Rankin, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and their spouses, and her loving brother Eibar “Ike” Alberts.
